Why only one partner pays
Because a product for two people that charges twice has a design problem, not a pricing strategy.
Nearvo is planned so one partner subscribes and both unlock. Planned pricing: $49.99/year, $9.99/month, or $129.99 once. At the annual price that's about $2.08 per person per month.
The problem with charging both
A couples app only works if both people are in it. Every friction point is doubled — two downloads, two sign-ups, two decisions. Adding a second payment to that chain means the app fails whenever one partner is willing and the other is merely agreeable. Which is most of the time, because in most couples one person is the one who found the app and the other is going along with it.
This isn't hypothetical. Requiring separate subscriptions is a specific, repeated complaint in user reviews of apps in this category. It reads to people as being charged twice for one thing, and they're not wrong.
The lifetime option, and why it exists
Subscription fatigue is the single most common pricing objection across this whole category. People are reasonably tired of a monthly charge for something they may use intensively for three months and then occasionally forever after.
$129.99 once is roughly two and a half years of the annual plan. If you use it for longer than that, you're ahead. We would rather be paid once by someone who keeps the app than monthly by someone who resents it — and an app you resent isn't one you'll open with your partner.
What we're not doing
- No weekly plan. Weekly subscriptions retain terribly, attract App Store scrutiny, and mostly exist to make an annual price look reasonable.
- No free tier that's a demo of a paywall. A free tier that shows you a locked feature every third tap isn't free, it's an advertisement you have to operate.
- No selling data. Not a business model we're interested in, and in this category especially, not one anyone should accept.
What you can use right now for nothing
Everything on this site, without an account or an email address: 50 examples of bids for connection, 25 questions for after a fight, the weekly check-in agenda, 20 questions for when you feel disconnected, and what to do about the argument you keep having.
These aren't a funnel. If they're all you ever use, that's a fine outcome.
